A friend of mine was recently describing how his new running shoes have accelerometers in them, and these accelerometers connect wirelessly to his iPod, and between them they track number of steps, average speed, distance travelled, stuff like that. And all of this gets automatically uploaded--again, wirelessly--to some internet site, accessible by a web browser, where you can track your statistics, compare with other users, stuff like that.

He thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I thought "if the government did something like this people would shit themselves, and here's a guy paying Nike ten bucks a month for it!"

In ten years, no one will care if the government subpoenas it, because no one thinks it's private any more. Timing is everything.
