Recent workout music choices:
Imelda May has a fine appreciation for retro rockabilly and torch songs, and her band is very strong. Plus, I'm a sucker for horns. Only about half the songs on this album come close to being workout music, but when Imelda May rocks, she rocks; see, e.g., "It`s Your Voodoo Working" or "Big Bad Handsome Man."
Gossip's Music for Men has a couple of cuts that combine danceability with Beth Ditto's raw female wail.
And I've renewed my appreciation for Kelly Clarkson now that she's given up her rockstar/singer-songwriter delusion. God gave her great pop pipes. When she stops trying to write and just sings, no one is better. All I Ever Wanted takes her back to her roots.
Shakira's She Wolf? I'm still listening, but it's disappointing. Still, she's as charmingly daffy as ever, and you've got to love someone whose reaction to being left home while her lover runs off to Paris with another woman is to curse them with bad room service:Hope the French fleas eat you both alive!
And your room smells!
And the toilet doesn’t flush!
And the locals treat you mean!
And the service takes too long!
