The NY Times has discovered barefoot running and written a long piece about it.
Meanwhile, I've lost some of my enthusiasm for it. Maybe it does force runners into better posture and shorter steps, but I find that landing on the fore part of the foot, rather than the heel, seems to cause calf injuries. I've had a persistent left calf injury that only bothers me when I run barefoot. But it recurs even after a several-week layoff and makes continued barefoot running impossible.
