All states are required to meet the interim REAL ID compliance requirements by December 31. All of them told the government last year that they could do that. But that was before the election, and the assumption by the governors that the new Democratic majority would let them off the hook, passing a lame substitute. Well, surprise. Nothing has passed. It think it's nearly impossible for PASS ID to be enacted in time to save the governors from the deadline, despite the urgings of the NGA.
Now states that were on track to be compliant are going to miss the deadline, setting up a tough choice for Sec. Napolitano, who cannot really say that the law won't be enforced but who would much prefer to be enforcing a less demanding law.
